As part of the 9th OAFI International Patients’ Congress, promoted by the Osteoarthritis and Osteoporosis International Foundation (OAFI), at DONTE GROUP we highlighted the close relationship between oral health and osteoarticular health, emphasizing the importance of a multidisciplinary approach that integrates both within the concept of comprehensive health.
During the event, held on October 22 and 23 at the MGS Auditorium in Barcelona, Dr. Clara Esteban, Medical Director of DONTE GROUP, took part in the roundtable discussion “Oral health and its relationship with osteoarticular health”, together with rheumatologist Dr. Ingrid Möller, Director of the Poal Institute of Rheumatology, and Montse Sans, a patient with osteoporosis and OAFI volunteer.
In her presentation, Dr. Esteban addressed how periodontal diseases can influence systemic inflammatory processes that affect bones and joints, and how preventive dental care contributes to improving the quality of life of people living with chronic conditions.
“Osteoporosis can affect the jawbone and cause various oral health issues. Tooth loss, gum disease, and increased susceptibility to infections are common problems among people with osteoporosis. In addition, bone loss in the jaw can lead to difficulties with chewing and speaking,” explained Dr. Esteban.
The session, aimed at both patients and healthcare professionals, helped raise awareness about the need to integrate oral health into the overall care of people with osteoarthritis or osteoporosis, fostering prevention and health education.
“Taking care of oral health also means taking care of the joints. From dentistry, we can help prevent complications and enhance the overall well-being of patients with musculoskeletal diseases. Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment can prevent more serious complications,” added our Medical Director.
Oral Health Within Everyone’s Reach
During the Congress, we announced a partnership with OAFI through our Vitaldent brand, aimed at offering preferential conditions for dental treatments to the Foundation’s members and patients in more than 350 clinics across Spain.
This collaboration reinforces our commitment to providing accessible, high-quality dentistry, especially for groups who require continuous health monitoring and support. The initiative seeks to promote prevention, facilitate access to regular check-ups, and foster a people-centered approach to health.
With our participation in #OAFICongress25, we reaffirm our purpose of making oral health accessible to everyone, especially to those who need it most, while promoting prevention, awareness, and collaboration among professionals from different medical fields.
